CUNA Hires Clement Abonyi Jr. to Help Manage Relations with Democrats

Credit union trade group adds new director of advocacy with background in finance and politics.
CUNA has announced the appointment of Clement Abonyi Jr. as its newest director of advocacy. According to agency officials, he will help manage the trade group’s relations with Democrats.
“Clement has a demonstrated record of engagement and strong policy work and is ready to hit the ground running as we look to advance credit union priorities on Capitol Hill,” said Jason Stverak, CUNA’s deputy chief advocacy officer for federal government affairs.
Background in Finance and Politics
Abonyi has served as chief of staff to former House Financial Services Committee Chairwoman Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif. In addition, he has worked with the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and as a special assistant for legislative affairs at the Treasury Department during the Biden Administration.
A first-generation American born to deaf immigrants, Abonyi received his bachelor’s degree from The American University School of Public Affairs and is a native of South Norwalk, Conn.
